Grandpa Time

Ever since Grandma and Grandpa McArthur moved to Show Low, our visits to Arizona have included one of Grandpa McArthur's favorite past times--taking the grandkids fishing.  Grandpa is a big hunter and fisher and loves to be in the great outdoors.  As a boy, his family met every year at Gray's Ranch in Pine Valley and participated in the McArthur family deer hunt.  This tradition has carried on, but since I'm not a huge fan of hunting, I rarely get to participate in these family bonding trips.  I do have fond memories of fishing in Pine Valley though, and even more fond memories of wading in the stream that led down to the lake.  You could follow the stream all the way up to the family campsite where good food was always waiting for us at the end of a long day of fishing.  Since I've often felt left out of the family deer hunts, and fishing was more palatable, I decided it was important to indulge Grandpa in his desire to take my kids out fishing any time we visit.  He's an incredibly good sport, and often spends more time untangling lines and loading bait than actually fishing, (no one else will skewer the worms!) but he seems to love the time as much as we do, and there are such beautiful places to fish in the White Mountains.  Someday I'm sure the early morning Arizona fishing trips will end, but I hope the memories of this special time with Grandpa never will.

Even though the time with Grandpa is always wonderful, some days the fishing is better than others.  You can decide for yourselves how we did.

Lego Time with Grandma

There's so many fun things to do at Grandma's house, and nobody knows legos like Grandma McArthur.  She's the author of cataloguing legos and keeping them in separately labeled bins.  We're working on having a Lego collection like yours Grandma!

Show Low Days

Nothing spells fun with Grandpa and Grandma McArthur, when we come to Arizona, like a trip to Show Low Days.  It's small town entertainment at its best.  Grandpa's hospital was sponsoring the event this year, and he insisted we all come so he could show off the grandkids to his colleagues.  Summit Healthcare had a booth at the event too, where we could all get medical supplies and stuffed animals.  There were great activities like pony rides and hamster ball races that the kids loved participating in also.  It was kind of hard when Grandma and Grandpa first left my childhood home in Oklahoma, but we have all come to love Show Low.  The house on the golf course, the country club pool and game room, and of course, trips to Grandpa's hospital and all of the Show Low community events.  Now it will be hard if Grandma and Grandpa ever leave here.  Life!

Super Slide Fun!

One of the things we love to do on warm summer days is visit our local super slide park.  From the rock climbing wall to the carnival rides--it's a great family outing.  Just another way to make a regular summer day into a little celebration.
