Our Little Climber!!

So, I thought I would follow little EmmaLee around the house for a few minutes the other morning to get some photos of a typical "day-in-the-life" of our precious baby girl. Although her looks and temperament remind me a lot of how her big sister Madison was at her age, Emmie is considerably more "busy" than Maddi or Spencer ever was as a baby. And although she will take any and every opportunity to get her little hands into anything and everything, I would still have to say that Emmie's favorite passtime is climbing on things.

So, let's begin our day in the life....

First off, after going to the bedroom to get my camera, I came out to find Emmie standing on top of our photo albums....

checking out our Disney Movie Collection,

and realizing she was CAUGHT! (And being photographed.)

I took her down from the bookshelf and put the photo albums away. A few minutes later, she was climbing again, this time onto Spencer's stool at the kids' easel. And low and behold what did she find? A dry erase marker with the lid only partially on! I'm glad I was following her!

After letting her draw on the dry erase board for a few minutes, I again spoiled her fun by taking away the marker and putting Spencer's stool back in the bathroom. It didn't phase Emmie for long though. She caught onto the game I was playing and quickly set off for her favorite climbing location: our mini rocking chair. We bought this miniature rocking chair in Nauvoo when Maddi was little and it has been a favorite for all of our kids. It has, however, been the most beloved by our adventurous EmmaLee. She loves to climb into the chair, stand up, place her hands in the air, and rock her legs back and forth. It makes me a nervous wreck, but my attention only feeds the fire. I generally make the sternest face I can muster and tell her to "Sit down!" She only laughs at me and rocks more vigorously. When I can stand it no longer and I'm sure she is going to topple over onto her head, I give in and hurry over to pick her up. As I rush towards her she quickly sits down, then pops back up the moment I back away. Here she is amusing herself with this little game.

So, after a quick photo, back in the bedroom the rocking chair goes, and Emmie is off to yet another climbing location. This time she goes for the mini powerwheels--another of all of our childrens' favorite toys. Although she is not even one yet, she can drive this thing around like a maniac. Actually, let me rephrase that. She can push the button that makes the four wheeler go, but steering, well that's a different story! She's lucky, however, because generally her big brother or sister will rescue her whenever she runs into the wall and gets stuck.

Well, after fifteen minutes of following this little woman I'm already worn out! You'll have to just guess what the rest of "a day in the life" of our sweet Emma would be like. I'll give you a clue though--it will surely include more climbing! (and usually more clothes too!)

Cowboy Up!!

I was told recently that I needed to update my blog more often, to which I truthfully replied: "But I have nothing to post." January through March is typically the slow time in our family (as I'm sure it is for many of you all) and we generally have a major picture shortage during these months. In an effort to remedy this problem, however, I have been more diligent these past few weeks about pulling my camera out and photographing my little ones. While most of these photos are too boring or too random to post, I decided these two shots of Spencer merited a place in the archives of the Hoskins Family Blog.

Soooo...

Here's our little cowboy! We've been working really hard with Spencer to get him to dress himself. He knows how to do it, but loves to drive his parents crazy by claiming "I Can't!" A couple of days ago I told him to go into his room and get dressed because the music makers kids would be coming over soon. A few minutes later he emerged from his room wearing his Lightening McQueen racing underwear, his cowboy boots, his cowboy hat, and an enormous smile. "I'm a cowboy, Mom" he told me matter of factly. I could hardly keep a straight face as I reached for the camera.

After getting a few cute pictures, I told him he would need to go and put on some pants and a shirt with his cowboy boots and hat. This is the response I got:

I guess I shouldn't have complained. He did dress himself, after all. And he does make quite a cute little cowboy!!
