Feliz Navidad!!

Since our home school Halloween party was such a hit, we decided to get together again and have a home school Christmas Celebration.  As we talked about different options for the party, a few of the home school moms (the two that served Spanish speaking missions) had a brilliant idea to make the party extra special--tie the Christmas party into our Spanish class.  In other words, hold a big Mexican Fiesta complete with a sampling of traditional Mexican fare.  The kids (and moms!) loved all of the taste-testing, and even more so the traditional Mexican Christmas activities.  We began our activities with a candle-lit Las Posadas processional through the house. 

 Then we met in the basement for the breaking of the Christmas pinata.  

Finally, we had all of the children write a Christmas wish on a small slip of paper and then we tied the wishes to balloons and released them into the heavens.

I don't know how many of these ideas that we researched are actually authentic Mexican traditions, but the kids enjoyed them nonetheless, and they added a fun twist to our Christmas party this time around.
